Laura Menchaca ruiz
is a Chicanx media maker, scholar and community educator that emerges from the borderlands of the U.S. Southwest—a child of Mexican immigrants; seedling of the Americas; daughter of blue color warriors; and proud product of a feminista home. Her work celebrates the marks that people make on the world, revealing the extraordinary in the ordinary—the figurative love letter to one’s work, neighbor, family, city, passion project, home. Laura’s approach treasures the local, the small-scale, the personal, the eccentric, whatever is made out of love and caring and respect. In being attentive to the things and movements people build, create, assemble, disseminate, she explores the complexity of human intimacy and social life by questioning normative definitions of success and failure.
